"Significant Interaction with Client Management Teams and Investors"
My journey, which has ultimately led to a career at FT Partners, does not follow a traditional path or storyline. While pursuing a double-major in Accounting and Global Marketing at the University of Southern California, I decided to take an internship for my Junior summer with a Big-4 accounting firm in New York City. While the experience was invaluable, and I made life-long friends, professionally I was left craving something more.
Returning to USC for my Senior year, I set out to find a career path and firm which challenged me intellectually, had a collegial and entrepreneurial culture, and would allow me to grow through unparalleled exposure to unique opportunities. For me, a standard, lock-step role wouldn't satiate my professional desires. Investment banking, and specifically FT Partners, became the career path which "checked all the boxes." Despite having extremely compelling opportunities from top bulge and boutique firms, I ultimately chose FT Partners because of the top-down commitment to each of my criteria — I truly felt like I could have a unique, fast-paced experience working alongside a team whom I both liked and respected.
Since joining the Firm, my experience has been far more than I anticipated. I am challenged intellectually day-in and day-out. I have immense respect for, and get to learn from, the best-in-the-business. I show up every day and work alongside colleagues who have become my best friends, both inside and outside the office. I do not have a traditional, standard finance role. I don't spread comps all day, run DCF after DCF, or spend the majority of my time pitching buyside deals. I feel like, and am treated as, a partner of the firm.
My favorite part of the job, and why — following the completion of my Analyst program — I'll be staying at FT Partners as an Associate, is the relationships I build with my clients. I have worked alongside the CEO, CFO and full management team — a group of individuals who became family — of a PE-backed client whom recently went public, worked first-hand with the Co-CEOs of a founder-backed client who formed a joint venture with a strategic acquirer, and worked with the founders and management team of a client to receive a minority investment from a top-tier, middle market private equity firm. On the surface, this seems standard. It isn't. The exposure I get to C-level executives, management teams and investors is unparalleled. I have built friendships and relationships which I'll keep the rest of my life. These experiences give me a thorough, in-depth understanding of HOW businesses run. I truly feel like a part of each of my clients.
A few years ago I decided to be the "greater fool" and take a chance on FT Partners. My career and opportunities have been unlike any other — that chance I took led me to where I am today and why I'm excited to build my career here at FT Partners.
