After receiving my MBA from Duke, I was intent on finding a position within an established firm that would give me the opportunity to develop a career long-term. When I came across FT Partners, I was drawn to the uniqueness of the firm — it was entrepreneurial, extremely successful and competing for (and winning) "the best" deals in the space. Most firms I had spoken with previously had one of these qualities, but FT Partners was a rare find in that had both. When I came in for my interview, I was immediately impressed by the caliber of people I met. Every one of them was incredibly smart and hardworking. They were not only people that I knew I could learn from, but they were people who I knew would teach me.
From day one, I was given an unbelievable amount of responsibility with the opportunity to absorb as much learning as possible. I have been constantly challenged to take on increasing levels of responsibility, and I feel confident doing so as I know the entire FT Partners team is there to give me support and guidance when needed. The incredible and never-ending deal flow has provided for a tremendous learning experience. During my time at FT Partners, I have gained experience working on a very diverse set of deals from both a transaction and client-type perspective. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work on some of the biggest deals in FT Partners’ history, including AmWINS' growth recapitalization by New Mountain Capital, Bain's growth equity investment in SquareTrade, EISI's sale to Vista Equity / Zywave and Ellie Mae's IPO. All were landmark deals in the firm's history, but represent only a small percentage of the many different types of deal opportunities that come through our door every day.
At FT Partners, I am fortunate to spend 100% of my time working in a growing and interesting sector (financial technology). As an Associate, I was given the responsibility to lead one of the sub-sectors of our Financial Technology coverage universe (Healthcare and Insurance IT). This deep industry knowledge is constantly reinforced by live deal and business development opportunities. The never-ending learning, deep industry focus and ever-changing deal experiences keep me on the edge of my seat, and I look forward to see what the coming years will bring me at FT Partners.
